1936

I've had this sneaking feeling for a long time. Is this what it was like to live in Germany in the 1930s? I begin to wonder if this administration will step down in January 2009, even if their own party should win. I feel less and less like that thought is paranoia.

Well, they lost in 2000 and very few objected to their taking power anyway...

Very true. Good point.

I was way to into "teacher" mode in my last comment! What I meant to say was:

Oh, hell yes, GayProf. They manipulated the election, twice. Then, they started a war of aggression that has become beyond insane and is used to supress dissent at home. They have violated the Constitution, repeatedly, in the name of "national security." Their social policies discriminate against homosexuals, immigrants, and non-white races. They force the public discourse into the language of Christianity.

I'm sounding like the Declaration of Independence. When do we get to the point of suffering enough and then rising up against oppressors? How do we even do that, when voting doesn't seem to be enough, when the deaths of thousands do not seem enough?

Me too Clio -- particularly the day our Mexican housekeeper was afraid to leave the house because of the raids in Shoreline. Subsequently, she has been fired by all but three of her clients, who fear prosecution. I keep thinking of Ann Frank.

Have you seen the Exec Order which authorizes property seizures for those W thinks undermine his GWOT? Very depressing, even more so that no one has been out in the streets protesting it! It was just last week, and I've yet to hear/see anything on it.
