Historiann, I think icon or avatar works. Icon sounds better, like the image should be called "St. Clio of the Bluestocking" by the Internet Iconist (c. 2006-2009)
I must confess that the picture of me is actually from last summer. My hair grows like a particularly bad strain of weeds,so it has almost reached the length of the avatar's again (although not as long as before the chop).
I shall now call you Amelie...very striking resemblance and you know how I like that photo.
