So glad you mentioned his passing. Not many people paid much attention to this loss.
I heard an unbelievable story on NPR about Franklin recently being mistaken for a coat check-er at an exclusive club on the night that he won a major award (sorry my details are so sketchy) -- the point being that racism is alive and well in our country despite all the work that illuminaries like Franklin have done.
He will be missed.
