The Great Blizzard of '09

The snowfall didn't quite hit the 12 foot mark. This drift on my balcony is about a foot high:

This is the view further out, lovely and quiet. The lack of traffic also helps. The fuzzieness of the image is a result of the falling snow, which makes you want to meditate. Close to the buildings, with the updrafts, the flakes fly in all directions, down, up, left, right, diagonally.
Here, you can see the tennis court in near pristine condition.
Last year, during a snowfall during the week, all of the kids were running around out there. Someone had written a gigantic "Fuck" in the snow by walking out all of the letters. Then, they drew a massive phallus. Last night, not even an hour into the snowfall, someone had to go stamp their name out there. "Ain't that just like a human," I thought. "Can't leave something natural and pretty just as it is. They have to go brand their name on it and claim it as their own."
Note the depth of the drifts against the nets, and the little kids playing on the slides in the top left of the image.
My car is somewhere down there. My ice scraper is IN the car.

The gargoyles all huddled together, still keeping watch.

They like the snow. It makes them feel butch, like they are doing their job.

Of course, if you look to the far right of the image, about half way down, you can imagine that the little ones probably want to come in.

ETA: I probably shouldn't be so glib. Public transportation is shutting down at 3 pm today because of the rapid accumulation of snow. They can keep neither the 3rd rail nor many of the roads clear for long enough to be passable.

Wow! Stay safe and warm, Clio. And kudos on lining up the Gargoyle Gang. They're awesome.

I do love the first day of a big snowstorm when the snow is still pristine and fluffy, and I'm indoors staying warm.

Funny, I live in a town where it's supposed to be snowing like that for most of the winter yet today is going to be in the 50s.

I love the snowy gargoyles. They do somehow look more at home, suffering like that.

Love the pictures. And my favorite part of snow is when everything is kind of hushed and quiet...

It still hasn't started up here yet, but it's supposed to start by 1 AM. I'll see what things look like in the morning.
