December 9: Party

Prompt: Party. What social gathering rocked your socks off in 2010? Describe the people, music, food, drink, clothes, shenanigans. (Author: Shauna Reid)

This one isn't as obnoxious as yesterday's prompt. Still, I have to ask, "are we in high school?" A party? Really?

Well, I went to no parties this year. So, ha! Instead, I recommend this prompt:

Prompt: What is your favorite vice? What about it do you enjoy? When did you pick up the vice? When do you engage in that vice? How often in the past year? How often to you plan to engage in in in the next year? Do you ever feel guilty about that vice or intend to give it up?*

---------------------------

*C'mon, do you really feel guilty about it or plan to give it up?

I want you to write on your alternative prompts! I'm intrigued!

I actually don't feel like this one's high school-ish, but maybe that's because I've done a lot of party-type events this year? I mean, the "knock your socks off" is surely a bit much, but "social engagement" seems broad enough to do something with it....

Second Dr. C's desire to see Clio B's responses to the alternative prompts. Hey, what say next year we set up a snarky alternative (reverb for grownups?) as our end-of-year group blog project? I mean, you know, if we're all still alive and everything. It could be fun!

This reverb exercise is getting worse and worse. I am so glad you're giving alternatives.

What I hate about it is how condescending it is.

Vice: finally telling people off. It is a relief but it also upsets and exhausts me. So, it is a real vice. I am always creative and right but if I were actually to say all the things I come up with it would be downright mean.

I just resisted, for instance, being mean about a quotation. Because what I have to say, I should say to the author and to the people who have worked to get this quotation overused - not to the student who just discovered it for the first time and loves it.
